Feature request: rename a chat in the history

This has been requested before, but I dare to bump on this one.

Currently the chats are named after the last prompt in the chat history.
Since the last prompt in a series is often a follow-up question, the keywords of the original topic are lost, hence the chat name is not meaningful.
It would be nice to rename a chat, to be able to better find chats later in the history. Once renamed this name should stay and not (as now) overwritten by a new added prompt.

Keep up the good work.
Thx
Paul

Hey @pbernet

Thank you for the feature suggestion. The product manager will surely have an eye on it.

I’ll bump this up as well.

As a product manager myself I can appreciate the feedback. This would be a great improvement to have.

If I were to give additional ideas around improvements to the chat history

  • rename chats
  • sort (or keep sorted by last used (which would help identify at least the most recent chat). If this is currently the functionality, it’s not clear it is. I’ve seen this not be the case
  • last updated timestamps. Also helps identify chats and possible unnamed ones if a user decides to not name them.
  • archive. basically a way to keep the chats and not delete them, but also not keep them in the main list. Little archive icon, moves chat to an accordion called archive that is by default closed. Keeps it out of the main list.
  • longer term the ability to create folders/accordians to organize chats. drag to organize but if that’s too much effort, a little tooltip to show created folders and pick the one to move a chat to.

With all that, the ability to easily see tell what the chat needed it the most important. Good solve for that would be the ability to assign a perpetual name to it. Users can then organize by project, file, or feature in order to keep all the historical chat context organized.

Keep up the great work!

Just giving this a bump!

I have to say, it can be pretty frustrating to dig through chat history just to recall the last thing I said in each conversation.

Really love the ideas @homer suggested, if those features were available, they’d make a huge difference in my experience with Cody!

In the meanwhile, you can use my fork of Cody, which is a deep clone of it but needs to be installed manually. This feature, and other niceties are implemented there.
