Cody is giving me this error:
Request Failed: Sourcegraph Cody Gateway: unexpected status code 403: {“error”:“workspaces: forbidden: user is banned”}
I did not receive any information, just this error message (for a few hours now).
Can you help me with this?
Hey @serverside-is
What plan are you on, Free, Pro, Enterprise Starter?
When did this happen, what steps did you take before you received this error?
It would be very helpful if you could give us more information to narrow down the issue.
Thank you very much.
I’m on the Sourcegraph Enterprise Starter plan since March 3.
I’ve been using Cody almost exclusively from the IDE—initially in Visual Studio, but primarily in VS Code on Linux. I’ve been using it extensively, as I’m developing a new project full-time, and I’ve found the generated material to be the best I’ve seen.
My namespace username is “info”.
Edit: Besides possible overuse (I’m not sure what’s considered fair use yet), I had also been teasing the chat to organize a few entity properties by group and was quite picky about it. Maybe since that’s not strictly coding, it triggered some red flag?
Thanks!
Hey @serverside-is in this case, please contact support@sourcegraph.com via e-mail for further clarification, since have no access to this data.
They can help you better there than here.
Hello,
I did, and they solved my problem.
Thank you!
@serverside-is
Great to hear that the issue is resolved now. Was it a special setting or indeed something on the backend?
Thank you
The reason for the “ban” is still unclear and currently under investigation.
In any case, it has been lifted, and I now have normal access again.

One question I have despite it was solved.
Have you switched off the telemetry setting?
I started with Visual Studio Pro 2022, where I don’t find settings or logs.
Then worked with VS Code for a few days until the ban, and yes I had telemetry switched off.
After the ban was removed I worked a few more days with VS Code, but with telemetry on (thought it might help).
Last few days I’m back with Visual Studio Pro 2022.
I had the same issue. Didn’t realise that I had been blocked as the error message was insane with HTML. You post made me have a proper look through and yeah, got “You’ve been banned”. Turned off VPN and now it’s all good. Maybe that was your issue as silly as it may seem?
I never used a VPN (at least not for this). The “unban” wasn’t due to any changes I made—it was handled by Sourcegraph support. My error message was a simple box displaying the content I mentioned in my first post.
