Hey @Denis2popov
Are you getting any other error logs?
There is a fair use policy for the Cody chat, and as long as you use it as a normal user, where you don’t spam it like an API call, it feels like unlimited. The unlimited part refers to having a fixed fee and not being charged extra on top of that fee, and there are no “slow request” queues like when using Cursor where you would have to pay more to get faster results beyond the 500 chat request limit. There have been situations where users have been automatically banned for 24 hours under certain conditions, sometimes due to a known bug and sometimes due to non-stop usage, account sharing or violation of AUP policies.
So please don’t use the unlimited tagline as a means to go wild and use it 24/7.
Cody is also very particular about being a chat system for programming and may flag non-programming requests as something that violates the fair use policy.
My personal suggestion, try to make 1 chat request per minute, if you don’t get the right answer don’t make multiple requests per minute, at least not often to avoid being flagged by some automated process.
Also keep your chat sessions focused, don’t use a single chat for different requests to keep it running smoothly.
Follow these guidelines and Cody should feel like the unlimited chat system you hoped for when you subscribed.
I am getting the “You’ve used all of your chat messages and commands for today.” message. This is my second day using the service. I like it a lot better than other AIs. I am on the enterprise starter plan. I understand that this is based on a fair usage policy, but I have only sent one request today and then the second one failed. Can you give me a better idea of what would trigger this? If I make a request using the agent and it pulls in 20 files does this trigger the fair usage policy faster than other questions?
It is currently set to reset at 1:09 PM (MST). Why this time? when is the day cutoff?
Hey @paulzyto
The Agentic chat actually uses more messages than the usual chat, because it does a review loop during context fetching, which uses two additional messages in the background. It does not matter how many files it fetches.
Agentic chat is therefore efficiently used in the first 2-3 messages per chat session, and then later switching to another model is advisable.
The reset limit is set to 24hours.
If you are curious if your prompt is triggering the limit, you can provide the prompt here if you like.
I hope that helps.
I did a lot of requests yesterday as it was my first day using it and I wanted to see what it could do. My favorite thing about Cody is that it can answer questions using the context of multiple files automatically with the source graph search. I suspect this might have been what triggered it. If it happens again, we can look at the individual requests to figure it out. Thanks for responding so quickly. I hope as infrastructure cost drop this limit can be removed or the limit increased. In the future I hope to see AIs that can write entire projects or port code with minimal supervision. Any insight as to what is next for Cody? I believe what you have built is truly cutting edge and the begin of what a coding AI agent will do for our industry.
im getting the same message except i am a pro and enteriprise customer, so if you have both an use it like a good developer should unlimited is need especially when using code to direct you agents and multiple bot to accomplish 5 project at once and to lock me out of 6hrs with out warning is ridiculous especially paying for both pro and enterprises plan! And the last time i checked UNLIMITED meant Endless not suggestive endless.
